Thaksin slams 'new state' stickers

Red stickers labelling Thaksin Shinawatra as the head of a "new Thai state" are seen near a public phone on Silom Road.

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra condemns the people who put up stickers on Silom Road proclaiming him the head of a "new Thai state," Thaksin's legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said on Tuesday.
In a statement distributed by Mr Noppadon, Thaksin said: "I would like to condemn such a campaign because it is false and this is the worst political accusation ever made against me.

"Those who are behind this act do not have any good intentions for the country and want to widen the social divisions. They are also engaging in tax corruption," Thaksin said in the statement.
The fugitive red-shirt icon demanded the campaign stop. He said Thai people would not believe it.
"My family and I uphold the national institution, religion and the monarchy, and we are loyal to Their Majesties the King and Queen.
"I would like to ask officials to find those responsible and take action against them," he said.
The stickers label him "pramook (ประมุข)" of the "new Thai state".
The pro-Thaksin United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) said the red-shirt group had no involvement in the 'President Thaksin' campaign, even though many of the signs have the UDD label on them.
"If people see those signs they can inform the red-shirt leaders or the police immediately," UDD co-leader Natthawut Saikua said.
