Cabinet approves US$100,000 to help China quake victims

BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA, Agencies) – Thailand's Cabinet on Tuesday approved abudget of US$100,000 to assist relatives of the victims of China’s Qinghai quake, which killed over 2,000 and left more than 12,000 injured.

Deputy government spokesman Supachai Jaisamut told a news conference thatthe ministry of foreign affairs proposed humanitarian assistance to the quake victims in China and the cabinet approved the budget.

His Majesty King Bhumibol has sent a condolence letter to the Chinese government to express sorrow for the quake’s victims.

The Chinese government announced the country would be in mourning on Wednesdaywith flags around the country and at embassies and consulates worldwide flown at half-mast.

The death toll from last week’s 6.9-magnitude earthquake in northwestern China stands at 2,046 people, with more than 190 people missing, according to state media. Another 12,000 people have been injured and tens of thousands left homeless. (TNA, Agencies)
